World Health Day 2024: reason and need for celebration.
Date: Globally World health Day is celebrated on 7th April from the past 75 years.1
Theme of this year: This year world health day theme is “my health, my rights”.2 The theme motivates people to focus on the concept of self-care and self-love. The theme is powerful- it emphasizes that when we are able to take control of my health, both physical and mental, we automatically make our surrounding a better and healthier place. A healthy person will always be a better parent, a supportive partner and a better society member.
Aim of World Health Day 2024: This year world health day is focusing on enlightening people from underprivileged, rural or medically deprived zone about the need self-care for betterment of health by encouraging and educating necessary folks about safe inhabitation, hygienic water consumption, importance of clean air, healthy eating for nutrition fulfilment, and clean clothing. 3
Objective of this year: First focus on oneself before trying to improve your society. 4
Some of the tips focusing on “my health, my rights” are:
Basic self-care: Maintain your personal hygiene and keep your house tidy.5 This will automatically lead to the betterment of your family as they will be staying in a clean atmosphere. Also, if you have any physical problem, or, you feel you have pain in your body or something is doubtful; you should immediately consult a physician or healthcare expert for his supervision. Trust your doctors!
Exercise: regular exercise or keeping the body active is necessity. Walking, swimming, cardio, cycling, yoga etc will lead you to sweat it out- which removing the toxins out of the body. This process is essential for human body to stay healthy and disease free. 6
Breakfast is important: One should never miss breakfast! 7. There are numerous health benefits related to breakfast. The ill effect of skipping breakfast is that you will start snacking when you are hungry or you will start eating packet food to subside your hunger later. Which is more harmful than skipping breakfast.
Keeping body hydrated: proper hydration by consuming water8, organic juice/ home-made juice9, buttermilk 10, turmeric water 11 is beneficial for body as it will regulate the body temperature, reduce inflammation in body, free radical scavenging, lubricates your joints, lows cholesterol and keep up your energy levels for all your chores.
Home food: cooking your own food has become very difficult in this era due to work load. But the most important pros for home cook food is that you can manage the calorie intake for maintaining your health.12 Also cooking gets your body moving too.
Sleep tight: A good night sleep is crucial for both mental and physical health. Good sleep is important for healthy heart, active brain activity and stronger bones13. It also effects your ability to maintain your behaviour socially.
So, this World health Day 2024, lets make our own life better by “My health, My rights”.
